Sorry for the crummy pics but he did the best he could. Its a beautiful Mercedes 300 Diesel wagon! He said He thought it was a manual as well because the driver kept his hand on the gear shifter. Another pic below.

Rare color, nice.

US spec bumpers makes me think there is no way that is a stick. Lack of armrest stability possibly

what because they all faded to dust in Cali? I have seen tons of that color up here in the northeast

U.S. Market cars were all auto

And, if I’m not mistaken, all turbo 300d ones were, regardless of market. Only non-turbo 300ds were available in stick. Go far enough back and you could get a W123 240d in stick, though.

I'm not sure I care. Terribly sorry, I was only in it to prove a high school kid wrong.

Always a good motive.

I think I’ve only seen maybe two MBZ products that color in person, ever. We apparently got all the brown and white ones.

The only way to get a stick being, of course, to get a flywheel from Europe for a non-turbo (or get one made) and then either put way too much power into a proper Benz box or abominate something else like a T5 in. This one being a turbo means (to my knowledge) that US/Euro bumpers wouldn’t matter - auto everywhere except the non-turbo.

truth be told I have only ever seen W123 in that color. I have seen some weird ones though before. Couple I have worked on or owned before
English Red (oil slick was from a stupid diesel Tahoe)
I had that Turquoise w108 swapped to a N/A 300 series diesel (504 also seen was mine). A couple less common colors seen in there

I thought you could crib a 240D flywheel to one. My 300TD 4 speed swap was something of this flavor

You’re not supposed to. The reason being, the 300 crank balances with the flywheel and a 240d one doesn’t - it’s properly internally balanced. A 240D flywheel is not only very possible to not have in balance *at all*, but the mass is too low. The proper 300D-sized flywheel is what was equipped to some non-turbo 300Ds in Europe, which require somebody at the parts desk in this country to willingly aid in your shenanigans. For conversions to some SUVs and the like, it’s more common to just have a new milled flywheel - see for example the kit for a Rover II/IIA (like what we’re going to use).

ah it did run a little rough now I remember it. I bought that thing for scrap prices for the swap anyhow and sold the swap as a package

I’ve had a couple of W123s in that red/orange color come in, both gray market cars. I know I’ve seen a car in that green too, but forget what chassis it was. That turqoise is fantastic, we’ve had a Pagoda 250SL in that color come in.

That baby blue W115 is just like one my dad had - other than I think ours had the passenger mirror option. Tragically, one of my clearest memories of it is my baby brother pooing himself at a nuclear level sitting next to me in the back seat...

hopefully it was a Tex car! hahahahaha

So true. MBTex is the only reason I don’t go

The car was a complete wreck, a blind Ebay purchase that was badly misrepresented. It was catastrophically rusty and literally needed everything . That’s one of the reasons I remember it so well, because I did the evaluation on it and it took up 2 pages. It sure looked nice from 20 feet though, the color really suited it well.

Well, I know I will never have another one at least :) Unless I have certain things “reversed”

now that is a damn shame. There is a guy up here that really specializes in pagodas (his yard is pagoda ruin porn exemplified). What it says on his homepage may be the truest thing ever

You couldn’t get the wagon in a manual. :( My mom DDs one of these, though. Here it is in hibernation.

And how do you know this is a U.S. market car?

It's in the U.S. I made an educated guess.
